if the device is full ask interactively to change device, optional integrity check algorithms ranging from CRC32 to Whirlpool hash, volume based integrity check etc.). Plus, I developed PEA as a format built ground up to implement authenticated encryption, and in the Pea binary I've also implemented the file wipe and file split and integrity check functions since I was not entirely satisfied of other applications of this kind I tested and I desired to implement it following my personal likes (i.e. The next steep will be about adding support for FreeArc, a very promising command line archiver/compressor. I added support for different revisions of PAQ, a great experimental compressor, and LPAQ, a lighter derivation of that project QUAD, an interesting compressor which privileges extraction speed over compression speed UPX, which I use to compress PeaZip's executables too UNACE, which is not open but just rojality-free so I needed to implement it as external plugin to let the base package content fully compliant with OSI approved licenses. P7zip is certainly the overall best, and handles a lot of formats, but it is not the only backend application, as you can see in PeaZip's introduction page: Since far less "wheels" as for graphical user interfaces to compression utilities exists on Linux than on Windows, and I was not particulary mad for any of them for one detail or another, I started this project to have a cross platform and cross desktop interface simply packed with all compression utilities (with suitable licenses) that most users need. PeaZip is a cross platform frontend for various compression, archiving, encryption, split utilities it is not unlikely to what Ark or Fileroller since there is no need to reinvent the wheel (a compression engine) if a good, Open Source wheel exists, and programming a frontend results in a program easier to modularize either for adding support or remove unneeded components. Did you just add some GUI to p7zip? Anyway peazip does nothing more than p7zip. You, giorgiotani, would better tell us how you made your peazip. Giorgiotani wrote:any feedback is welcome! If you have GTK1 too, you can use also PeaZip built in GTK1 "flavour" the widgetset is quite spartan but IMHO well performing and effective, even if I prefer GTK2 look all the way. I hope this scheme will be enough flexible to different users needs and preferences, while remaining quite intuitive to use, however any feedback is welcome!īTW, the new version was built with latest Lazarus IDE release which has far better support for GTK2 than previous one I used, so PeaZip 1.10 should perform without flaws on all distributions and with better GUI performances than previous version. With "Extract to" button or "Extract to" entries in context menu the user will be asked the output directory instead of extracting to the default destination. You can change to another default directory setting in I/O tab (the setting will last the entire session) or permanently set a new default extraction directory in Tools > Options, "Open archive" tab. Mzilikazi wrote:OMG just shut up and EXTRACT IT ALL RIGHT HERE AND NOW AND GO AWAY! Any tool that is modeled after Winzip is IMHO waaay too much effort to simply extract an archive.Ĭurrent PeaZip version extracts by default to current dir from "Extract all" button and "Extract" (all, displayed, selected) context menu entries. My search for unarchiving perfection continues. grrrrr Still, to me this is better than dinking around with those silly dialogs asking needless questions and wasting my time.

Now then, you can set unp as the run action for archives (at least in Rox filer anyway) BUT it always wants to extract everything to ~ instead of the directory the archive lives in. debs and it doesn't ask you a single question.

It's command line only but it can extract all sorts of stuff including. Fortunately we have the fabulous script unp (yes available in Debian) that just works.

Unfortunately (last I knew) Archive didn't handle all types or archives. You simply click the archive and it's extracted right then and there - no questions asked and then it just gets out of your way. Rox filer has a really nice utility called Archive. Where do you want to extract to? All Files? Done yet? OMG just shut up and EXTRACT IT ALL RIGHT HERE AND NOW AND GO AWAY! Any tool that is modeled after Winzip is IMHO waaay too much effort to simply extract an archive. What I find most irritating about almost all (un)archive utilities is that they want too much of your attention.

I figured some of the other Linux tools could handle rar but I don't even have any.
